The vineyards of CANTINA dei FRAGNI extend on a hill 290 m above the sea level, on the calcareous and stony soils of Macchianuova in the contrada Procida, 25 km far from the Adriatic sea and 40 km far from the Ionian sea.
The espalier vineyards of a native grape variety of the southern of Italy (Aglianico) and of an international grape variety (Cabernet sauvignon), beyond the native grape variety per excellence of Puglia (Primitivo), produce 60 quintals per hectares.
The low production for stump and the careful selection of the best bunches are the basis of an healthy product, rich in sugar, tannins and extract, with a year production of about 30’000 bottles.
A bee farm allows an environmental control thanks to their function as “environmental sentinels”.
In the wood of century-old fragni, an ancient reservoir of 300 cubic meters collects rainwater, this piece of rural archaeology, once used to water livestock, today is an important reserve for the antiparasitic treatments carried out between spring and summer.

After the harvesting period a grassing is carried out with “favino”, a leguminous plant which, seeded in autumn, allows to control the weeds between winter and spring. In spring, when it is cut and subsequently buried, it increases the nitrogen in the soil, as well as the water retention adding organic substance, this is of particular relevance for the Aglianico vines, which suffers during the hot season.

A meticulous thinning of the leaves after the veraison ensures a good ventilation which, together with an east-west exposure of the vineyards, allows an effective drying of the grapes after the rains, reducing in this way the number of necessary antiparasidic treatments.

The position of the vineyards near the winery allows to process the grapes immediately after the harvest, without waiting times and thermal changes, preserving the integrity of the grapes, allowing them to express their varietal peculiarities.
